Toxic
Polychlorinated biphenyls are toxic and persistent chemical compounds that are carcinogenic to humans and animals. Dioxins can be formed by burning PCBs below 1000 ° C (eg incinerators). Because PCBs are difficult to degrade, they accumulate in the fatty tissue of animals; humans get PCBs as a result of eating the animals containing PCB’s and different kind of foods. These contaminants are then stored in our body fat.
Due to the health and environmental effects, the production and use of PCBs has been banned since 1985. Because PCBs are very stable, they remain in the environment for a long time.
Analysis
NutriControl has the knowledge, experience and equipment for performing PCB analysis. The PCB analysis has an ISO 17025 accreditation and is performed with GC-MS. The following PCBs are reported: PCB-28, PCB-52, PCB-101, PCB-138, PCB-153, PCB-180 and total PCB (upperbound).
