Meat substitutes
These vegetarian products that consumers buy in the supermarket are called meat substitutes. The products need an alternative source of proteins that are naturally present in meat products. These alternative proteins can be extracted from natural products such as algae, insects, seaweed or legumes.
Analysis
Within Nutricontrol we have divided these alternative proteins into three categories: vegetable, aqua and animal. NutriControl can analyze these types of products for you for nutritional value, food safety (microbiological and contaminants), amino acids, vitamins and digestibility. Criteria for alternative proteins
The Netherlands Nutrition centre has set three criteria for the alternative proteins that are used as meat substitutes for the consumer. For example: the alternative must be more sustainable than the meat it replaces; it must be nutritious and safe for consumption. There is also an option to set your personal target values, this makes checking your results easier. You can see in an instant which samples are within your target.
