The Beginning
The first session, initially a precursor to Coffee with Knowledge, was a presentation by Christiaan Kapper about the achievements we had already made with NIR (Near-Infrared) and the promising future possibilities. This session was a great success and left us wanting more. Christiaan also enjoyed it a lot. Since then, Coffee with Knowledge sessions have been held regularly, covering various topics and presentations.
How does Coffee with Knowledge contribute to sharing knowledge and expertise within NutriControl?
Enhancing Collaboration
To collaborate effectively, both within teams and across different departments, it is important to know what others are working on. The presentations during Coffee with Knowledge provide insights into colleagues' work and foster understanding and collaboration.
Innovation and Problem-solving
Presentations can be used to share ongoing projects and research, even if they have not been completed yet. By explaining the projects and discussing any challenges, colleagues can contribute valuable ideas that can lead to solutions.
Expanding Knowledge
Coffee with Knowledge ensures that knowledge within NutriControl is continuously expanded. If someone has a question about a specific topic, a colleague with expertise in that area is sought out. If the required knowledge is not already available, someone is asked to delve into the topic and give a presentation on it.
Accessible Presentations
At Coffee with Knowledge, we strive to make the presentations accessible to colleagues with different levels of knowledge and experience. The presentations often start with some background information to get everyone on the same page. During the presentation, there is room for asking questions, and if a question is too extensive to address immediately, a separate Coffee with Knowledge session can be organized to further discuss the specific topic of the question.
Interesting Topics
During previous Coffee with Knowledge sessions, certain topics have generated a lot of interest among our colleagues. A presentation about another department within NutriControl is often well-received. Colleagues are eager to learn from each other and stay informed about what everyone is working on. Sharing experiences and expertise in different areas has contributed to a broader understanding of the company and has fostered collaboration between departments.
Challenges
Organizing Coffee with Knowledge also presents challenges. One of the biggest challenges is to get colleagues excited about attending presentations and suggesting new topics. To encourage this, we display announcements on narrowcasting boards and send a monthly newsletter to all departments. We strive to make Coffee with Knowledge even more well-known within NutriControl and motivate everyone to participate.
The Future of Coffee with Knowledge
We are currently in the process of transitioning Coffee with Knowledge to make it more interesting for colleagues from other departments within NutriControl, not limited to chromatography alone. Our intention is to make at least one out of every four presentations relevant to colleagues outside our department. This way, we can increase the diversity of topics and enhance the involvement of colleagues from other departments.
We look forward to further expanding the knowledge and expertise within NutriControl together with our colleagues through Coffee with Knowledge. We hope to inspire many more colleagues through interesting presentations and valuable knowledge exchange!
