Toxic
Prolonged exposure to PAHs can cause cancer and / or damage to the genetic material. Approximately 90% of the PAHs in the environment come from human actions. Humans mainly get PAHs through food. The most toxic PAH is benzo (a) pyrene (BaP), BaP is therefore considered as a marker for the entire group of carcinogenic PAHs when analyzing food.
Limit
There are limits on the amount of benzo (a) pyrene that may occur in foods. This is laid down in European Regulation No 1881/2006 on setting maximum levels for certain contaminants in foodstuffs. NutriControl analyzes PAHs with the use of gas chromatography (GC-MS).
